Meet Dr. Dorantes
Dr. Carlos Dorantes received his undergraduate degree from Francisco Marroquin University in Guatemala, and practiced in his home-town for three years focusing on children's dentistry. In 1999 Dr. Dorantes moved to Birmingham, Alabama to begin his specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Alabama Dental School (UAB). He successfully completed his Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry in 2002, and was invited to stay as a Fellow Faculty member for the Pediatric Dentistry Department at UAB. After completing his Master's degree from the University of Alabama, Dr. Dorantes moved to Yakima in the summer of 2003 to aid in the development of the pediatric dental services for the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic. In a joint venture with the University of Washington, Dr. Dorantes also pioneered one of the first Rural Pediatric Dental Residency training programs in the Nation. To this day, Doctor Dorantes holds an active staff position in the Surgery Department at Yakima Memorial Hospital and is a Board Member at the Yakima Hearing and Speech Center.
In December of 2008, Summitview Pediatric Dentistry opened its doors after several months of planning by Dr. Dorantes. We are very proud of being one of only two Private Practices specializing solely in Pediatric Dentistry in all of central Washington. Doctor Dorantes lives in Yakima with his wife Mei, their son Benjamin and their dog Lilly. He enjoys teaching, snowboarding, golfing and cooking for friends and family. He is also a published author in a peer-reviewed journal and is committed to education, prevention of dental disease and access to care for children.
